Delta state Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has inaugurated another batch of youths who were shortlisted for the state's Skills Training and Enterpreneurship Programme (STEP) as well as Youth Agricultural and Enterprenuers Programme (YAGEP) programmes.
The governor who performed the induction of the batch 1, group 1 of youths in the scheme on Wednesday at Songhai-Delta, Amukpe in Sapele council area of the state, through his deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, however reiterated the commitment of his administration to pursue the programmes to the latter.
Addressing the trainees, Otuaro, said that the state government was passionate about its five-point agenda which he said would bring prosperity to the state.
"The Okowa administration was voted into power on the mantra of prosperity for all. Most of you here being more than 18years came out strong and voted for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because you believed in us just like we believed in your future. I want to say thank you", he said.
The Deputy Governor said STEP and YAGEP programmes were aimed at prosperity for Deltans adding; "it represents a shift from Nigeria's reliance on oil in our mono economy that has suffered doldrums, to fallen prices, to Agriculture in a way that will stand out Delta State as a shining example to other states.
The focus of the empowerment programmes, he said, was to create a future for Deltans who are not only self-employed but are employers of labour.
Otuaro, while reaffirming the assurances of Prof. Eric Eboh, the Chief Job Creation Officer of the State on the programmes, said the state government will monitor, "bumper to bumper", development of participants of the training programmes so that they can be truly skilled for the support of the state government.
Earlier, the Executive Consultant of Songhai Delta, Dr. Theophilus Okpidi, said it was commendable that in an atmosphere where it was "no longer fashionable for politicians to fulfill their promises", Governor Okowa was courageously moving ahead with implementation of his laudable prosperity agenda.
At the ceremony, inductees of the programmes, sang to Okowa's praise even as drama pieces were performed to demonstrate the benefits of the STEP and YAGEP initiative.
