The Delta state police command is allegedly shielding policemen and three others reportedly involved in the terrible bullion van accident in Udu road, near, Warri which left a female bystander, Mrs Onome Akporode in a patiable condition at the State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
Mrs Akporode was knocked down in front of First Bank, Udu branch after a reckless billion van driver with police escort caused a fatal accident involving a 911lorry which crashed into the road pavement in a bid to avoid head-on collision with the one-way driven police van.
It was learnt that police who later arrested three suspects over the incident on Tuesday failed to arraigned them at the Otor-Udu magistrate court, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State on ground that they have not be to complete investigation in the case.
The court however rescheduled the case for August, 4, 2015 for hearing.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer at the Ovwian police station who spoke on condition of anonymity gave the names of those arrested over the accident to includes; Tare Onome Joseph, Edozie Gabriel and Godwin Odobare.
The source who spoke on the involvement of policemen in the accident noted that upon completion of investigation, the Vehicle Inspection Office, (VIO), would be in a better position to tell if the 3rd accused, (Godwin Odobare) is involved in the incident or not.
He said: "The VIO has not inspected the vehicles involved in the accident and the Ovwian Divisional Police Officer failed to do the needful which is a proper investigation on the case before taking the suspects to court.
"When the state commissioner of police called him in the morning (Tuesday), he said he was yet to do so and having been order to conclude investigation on the matter."
Meanwhile, human right lawyer, Oghenejabor Ikimi has petitioned Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase over what he called callous and reckless driving of a bullion van and escorts manned by policemen conveying cash to the Udu branch of First Bank which caused grievous bodily harm to the victim.

The petition which was made available to newsmen read: "We have been briefed and our professional services retained by MR. MICHAEL AKPORODE, hereinafter referred to as “OUR CLIENT” and it is on his very clear and unequivocal instructions we write your esteemed office.
"It is our brief that our client is the husband to Mrs. Onome Akporode, (Nee Kator), a teacher with Victress School, Aladja and a 31 year old mother of four, resident at Iyeghe Street, Aladja Town in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
"It is our brief that on the 13th day of July, 2015, our client’s wife, Mrs. Onome Akporode went to the Udu Road Branch of the First Bank of Nigeria Plc, to lodge some payments into an account with the said Bank.
"It is also our brief that after the above transaction, our client’s wife left the said bank and crossed the first lane on the Udu major Road in front of the bank, while waiting on the pavement at the middle of the road to safely cross to the other lane of the said road, when suddenly, a Bullion Van and Escorts manned by Men of the Nigeria Police Force and hired by the bank drove recklessly and menancily against the traffic in an attempt to drive into the bank.
"It is our further brief that in the process of the above, and on coming 911 Mecedez Lorry that was on its lane in a bid to avoiding a colliding with the said Bullion Van and Police Escorts, rammed into the said pavement on the road and our client’s wife, thereby chattering her two legs and damaging the pavement.
"It is our brief that after the above accident, some good Nigerians rushed our client’s wife to the Central Hospital, Warri, where she was referred the next day to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara and presently place on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of the said Teaching Hospital.

"It is also our brief that the left leg of our client’s wife was subsequently amputated by Doctors at the said Teaching Hospital same day in a bid to saving her life, while the Doctors are still contemplating on amputating the right leg of our client’s wife for her to survive.
"That our client had spent over half a Million Naira for the medical treatment of his wife since the 13th day of July, 2015 till the time of putting up this petition, while the owners of the Bullion Van, the 911 Mecedez Lorry and the bank in question including the erring Policemen are silent on the issue.
"It is in the light of all the above that we are passionately calling on you Sir, to cause a thorough and an independent investigation into the above complaints of our client in a bid to prosecuting the above erring culprits who caused the above grievous bodily harm to our client’s wife who is presently under severe pains and hardship".
