‘ 'The story is unfair, injustice’ - Ogor
The
embittered Isoko National Youth Movement leader, Comrade Isaac Ogaga Egbuwoku
who engaged the deputy majority leader of the House of Representative and
member representing Isoko Federal Constituency, Hon Leo Okuweh Ogor in a public
brawl shortly after the public hearing on the 1999 constitution has reiterated
why he fought with the lawmaker.
Egbuwoku said that he fought with the lawmaker because he reneged on an agreement they had to engaged some youths on security 'jobs' during the public hearing held at Oputa Hall, Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
He said that the lawmaker refused to pay them after the exercise hence the youths stormed his residence located in Oyoyo Street, off Hospital Road, Ozoro where they reportedly confronted him.
According to him, the development angered the lawmaker who 'seized' him on the shirt and in return, he 'held' the lawmakers shirt before people came to separate them.
He said that instead of releasing the money they both agreed for the youths, the lawmaker was busy ridiculing him and playing over his intelligent because he was in his house.
Egbuwoku spoke shortly after he left the scene in a telephone conversation with our correspondent who had tried to reach him while departing the scene.
He said that the confrontation which degenerated into the scuffle took place inside the residential house of the lawmaker.
Hear him: "We fought. The guy 'dey fuck up'! He doesn’t respect himself. He gave me work and he's talking to me as if I'm his 'boy'. Things are not done like that. Yes we fought in his house".
When press further on what led to the fight, he retorted that the lawmaker asked him to engage 20 youths to work as security personnel to maintain peace during the hearing but reneged after the exercise, trying to 'brush' him off.
"Yes, he asked me to arrange my youths to the venue to maintain peace which I did. So when they closed I meet him to bring the money we arrange to pay the bus we chattered to convey the youths to the venue".
"Then, he started talking to me anyhow, I told him don't be talking to me like that as if I'm a tout. If you don't want to pay, tell me let me leave here".
He said that it was at this stage the lawmaker started hounding him, thus degenerating the disagreement which led to the point of blows.
His words: "Then he shouted, saying I'm asking you to go outside you are still talking? I then shouted back that don't shout on me. Don't address me like that. I told him, you don't feed me or pay my children's school fee so why should you be shouting on him?
"You can't give people assignment and later starts treating them with disdain. It isn't done anywhere. And that's why I'm angry with him", he added.
He then said, (quoting Ogor) "so you are bold enough to confront me? I said why should I confront you if you respected yourself from the beginning, will I shout back at you?. So it was on that level, he torn my shirt and I 'seize' him".
"But God save him because if those boys loyal to him were not caution, assuming they fought and injured me, I would have turn that place on fire. I have over 1,000 boys outside that were waiting for me".
Speaking further, Egbuwoku, again restated how the brawl took place saying "how do you define fight? He torn my clothes, I 'seized' him on the shirt. Is that not fighting? They torn my clothes, scattered all my things".
"At the end of the day, his boys who were about fighting me, were cautioned not to do so, he was the one now cautioning them. But assuming they touch me, the fight wouldn't have ended there. I would have extended it".
"But at the end of the day, he was the one 'holding' the boys not to further touch me".
"Some of the boys say they want to waylay me but I told them if they tried it there would be bloodshed in the area because I have a lot of boys who were outside waiting for me.
However, Egbuwoku said that he later apologizes to the lawmaker over the scuffle but he did that after he was pacified and asked to do so by the Special Assistant to the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Hon Mike Ogwa who reportedly witnessed the incident.
"At the end of the day, Hon Mike Ogwa, who is the Special Assistant to the SSG, 'asked' me to apologize to him (Ogor) which I did under duress".
"My apologies to him were not because what he did what right but it was because Ogwa asked me to apologize to him, that's why I apologized".
"If not because of Ogwa, I wouldn't have apologized and nothing would have happened".
"I did that because of Ogwa approach otherwise I wouldn't because I didn't do him anything to warrant his actions".
"He gave me assignment which I diligently carried out, now give me the money to pay the boys and pay buses chattered and he started harassing me".
"I wasn't even stressing the money for the boys; I said I would take care of them but what about the money for the buses? That was what led to the disagreement".
Before the brawl, I had complained to a lot of people who known him very well all to no avail".
"He said bring 20 youths and I did. He said I would take care of their transport, I said okay. I later asked him what of the boys, wouldn't they eat? He said when we reach there, he will settle. Then when we reach, we asked him to come and settle, he started treating me with disdain".
"That was how the problem started. I told him, you gave me an assignment and I expected him to respect me by virtue of my position as Isoko Youth leader. As an individual, I'm not a write off. I'm like any other big man in Isoko land".
"I have my own personal house like he has. He has cars, I have car, he has kids, I has and I have wife and children I'm sending to school so why should he be treating me with disdain".
Meanwhile, the reported fisticuff between the lawmaker and the youth leader have continued to be shrouded in controversy.
