10 youths renounce cultism in Sapele weeks after cultist kill Bank Manager, five others
No fewer that 10 youths in Sapele, Delta State has renounce cultism barely few weeks after gunmen killed about five persons including a bank manager in a drinking parlour.
This is also coming on the backdrop of the renewed ‘war’ against cultism in the city by the Sapele-Itsekiri Community Youth Association (SICYA).
SICYA had been waging ‘war’ against cultism and other related violence in the council area for the past few weeks.
The youths were said to have renounced cultism during one of such campaign by the group.
The group had taken the campaign to all the nook and crannies of Sapele including notorious Okotie Eboh Grammar school area in Macpherson road through Ogodo streets, as well as Yoruba, Palmer, Mission road and Omotsola Primary school area.
The rally by the group to which the youths were said to have renounce cultism was attended by concern indigenes including minister of God and security agents.
The campaign rally was led by the Chairman of SICYA, Comrade Omolubi Newuwumi, as well as Commissioner representing the Itsekiri ethnic nationality in DESOPADEC, Hon. Michael Diden.
Also present were the Sapele Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev, Patrick Egwero as well as Chairman of the Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),Rev. Charles Omonogor among others.
Addressing the crowd, Comrade Omolubi Newuwumi, said that the campaign rally was bored out of recent sad incident in the metropolis.
He noted that the rate of killing and maiming of innocent people by cult groups were becoming so alarming hence they decided to carry out a campaign against it.
Omolubi lamented the gruesome murder of five persons at the Okotie Eboh Grammar school junction last week saying that that incident could happen to anybody.
He said however that there is the need for a collective efforts in order to eradicate cultism from Sapele local government area and the entire Delta state.
“I and my executives have been campaign against cultism in Sapele and creating awareness for parent to educate their children and wards against joining secret fraternity.
“You will recall that five persons lost their lives last week in Macpherson Road, opposite Okotie Eboh Grammar School, Sapele due to cult related incident. As I speak to you today, three other person who sustain injuries in the attack are currently on danger list at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Benin city”
“ The rally therefore focuses on those that have renounce cultism, those who want to renounce and a last warning to those who has decided not to listen to the voice of reasoning”, Omolubi said.
Also Commissioner representing Itsekiri ethnic nationality in the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Hon. Michael Diden, said it's time people in Sapele join hands in putting a final stop to the scourge before it gets out of hand.
Sermonizing during the programme, the PFN Chairman in Sapele, urged parents to carefully watch their children and monitor the kind of company they keeps.
At the end of the programme, about ten youths openly renounced their membership of secrets cults and vow not to return to the fraternity.
