DESOPADEC Budget Scandal: How Ibori Allegedly Broker Peace Between DESOPADEC MD, Delta Speaker
The alleged feud between the Managing Director of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Williams Makinde and the Speaker of Delta state House of Assembly, Hon Monday Igbuya over passage of the state's 2016 budget of which the commission is a beneficiary have been laid to rest.
Credible sources told BigPenreports that former governor of Delta state, Chief James Ibori who is serving jail terms in London reportedly settle the duo after the matter was brought to his notice.
Makinde's aide who confided on BigPenreports on condition of anonymity had alleged that his boss threaten to resign his position in the commission following alleged persistent harassment by the Delta state Speaker who purportedly demanded a percentage of the commission's 2016 budget.
The Speaker, the source clarified was allegedly demanding about N1billion naira of N28billion which was DESOPADEC share of 2016 state budget by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Dependable source told BigPenreports that Ibori reportedly urged the duo to debunked the media reports in a bid to disabuse the mind of the public.
The source said that Makinde, immediately he returned from his trip asked his media aide to debunked the allegations which was one of the condition given to both parties to laid the issue at rest.
Igbuya also instructed his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Henry Ovie Ebireri to issue a press release dismissing the allegations after a purported meeting of some youths, elders and leaders from Delta central in Asaba, the state capital.
On Sunday, the Speaker's Chief Press Secretary again sent another refutal in which the DESOPADEC MD purportedly debunked the allegations and declared that the Delta state Speaker is his 'political father'.
According to interview sent by the Speaker's CPS, the DESOPADEC MD also denied the allegations that he traveled to London to see Ibori over the matter saying rather that he only traveled to Zanzibar which is in East Africa not London.
He said that DESOPADEC budget was not yet ready and therefore wondered where the issue of bribe for passages of a budget which was yet to be prepare came.from.
