Otuaro Urges Youths To Key Into Okowa’s SMART Agenda

Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro has urged youths to take advantage of the Okowa’s SMART Agenda in order for them to be self reliant and employers of labour.

Otuaro spoke Saturday at a seminar organized by the Terence Ogagaoghene-led Read and Lead (RALE) Project, an NGO, at the Christ Missionaries Crusaders Church Auditorium, Asaba.

He was represented at the occasion by Mr. Emeka Osuji, a political aide and his Special Assistant on Youth, Mr. Lucky Amola who delivered Otuaro’s keynote address on “Youth Initiative for National Development”.

Otuaro said the SMART Agenda which is majorly targeted at youths was occasioned by the need to guide youths aright in their initiative and advised them to key into the Okowa-led Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP) and Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) amongst others.

He noted that all hands should be on deck to encourage our young ones to strive for excellence and qualify for scholarship programmes for which the state government has released money to the Scholarship Board.

Otuaro said government was desirous of a solid foundation in science and technology which informed the reviving of technical education in the state by revamping three of the 6 Technical Colleges in Agbor, Ofagbe and Sapele for mentoring of young engineers.

On the Technical Colleges initiative, Otuaro said: “Okowa strongly believes that what we need more, now, is technological advancement and economic consolidation. It is hoped that this initiative by the Okowa-led Delta State Government would serve as a template for other states of the nation to fast-track Nigeria’s march to technological greatness”.

“It is pertinent to emphasize before rounding off this lecture that there is need to change our general orientation about farming and other forms of labour. This is key to prosperity! We find, rather sadly, that our youths are ashamed of being called farmers, when for instance, our former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, is a proud Poultry Farmer that rakes in millions of naira a day! As youths, you should be willing and ready to tap on opportunities this administration is making available”, Otuaro emphasized.

“We have designed and implemented these programmes because we think you deserve better and prosperous lives. You gave your votes to this cause by giving your votes to Senator Dr. Ifyeanyi Okowa. You thereby gave your votes for your prosperiy which the Okowa-led government is committed to and ready to do more in the years ahead”, he said.
