A middle aged man went berserk on Thursday in Oyede, Isoko North Local Government of Delta State, killing about six persons and injuring many in a reprisal attack.
The man simply identified as Ogor was said to have invaded the community with a group of boys in a reprisal attack after he was allegedly assaulted by a notorious boy who have been terrorizing residents in Oyede.
Sources said the gun wielding man, who hailed from neighbouring Emede community in Isoko South local government area shot about six person including a young girl dead in a drinking parlour in the community where they have gone looking for the said Awele and fled.
Many were also injured by the gun wielding invaders.
The invaders, sources said were hunting for a notorious gangster popularly known as Awele who had earlier threatened to eliminate the former day before the incident.
The invader was said to be a ring leader of a cult group within the Isoko axis of the state.
Sources said the said Awele had attempted to killed the suspected cult leader the day he reportedly visited Oyede but he escaped and mobilise his 'boys' to invade the community.
Another version of the story says, the said Awele had allegedly murdered someone leading to the reprisal by the suspected cult group from neighbouring community.
Tension is already building up between Oyede where the four person where killed and neighbouring Emede and Irri community over the incident.
Residents of crisis-torn Irri community are already fleeing owing to fear of reprisal from Oyede as reports says. Some youths from the community had joined the suspected cultist to invade. Oyede.
Irri have been enmeshed in leadership crisis for over ten year, a development which had caused series of killing, maiming and burning of properties.
State Police Public Relation Officer, Charles Muka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), confirmed the story saying security have been deployed to the communities.
