Over 40 communities in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State are beneficiary of a multimillion naira "Eye Can See" project of Seplat Petroleum Development Company (Seplat).
The program which was flagged-off yesterday at Okpe Hall, Sapele attracted thousand of residents including traditional title holders, young and old people who trooped out to be treated of their eye problems.
Seplat said the programme is an extension of its ongoing community engagement initiatives in its host communities in Edo and Delta State.
General Manager Corporate Affair, Chioma Nwachuku (Mrs), who briefed newsmen shortly after the flag off said Seplat aims to bring quality optical care to people in need of it within its communities of operation.
"At Seplat, we believe firmly that health is wealth that is why we keep striving to help improve quality of life of the average people, especially those in our host communities".
Mrs Nwachuku said that besides it Global Memoranda of Understanding (GMoU) which it signed with the host communities December 2011, Seplat have being championing initiatives that would impact positively on their health and well being of her host communities.
She said that the programme is expected to run for 8 weeks in communities that spread across Delta and Edo State.
Over 50 people have already been enlisted for surgical operation in Sapele just as about 2000 estimated locals may also undergo surgical operation around the other host communities.
Seplat had shortly after signing its GMoU with host communities in October last year, also embarked on a CSR programme, christened "Safe Motherhood" which catered for over 3000 rural women in the host communities of Edo and Delta State.
