Valentine casualty: Man roasted alive after stealing clothes to impress girlfriend

A middle-aged man was lynched and burnt to death in the oil-city, Warri, Delta State after he stole from a bouquet.

The deceased was said to have stolen clothes from a road side bouquet in Orhurunwho road, Warri when he was caught.

He was caught with a rubber bag containing female clothes he allegedly stole from the bouquet, sources said.

It was gathered that the deceased had gone to the bouquet pretending to be shopping for his girlfriend but turn out to robed the shop when he brought out a gun.

He wanted to sneaked away from the shop after picking the clothes into a rubber bag but the owner of the shop dare to grabbed him when he shot at him on his shoulder, a sources said.

Sources said the gun shot attracted neighbours, one of whom also grabbed the fleeing man but he escaped into the neighbourhood around Kolokolo area of Orhurunwho road where he was eventually caught after a hot chase.

Irate mob who chased the deceased lynched and burnt him alive close to a popular Esco Supermarket, along the ever-busy road.

The incident which happened about 6:30 pm caused heavy gridlock along the road where hundreds of residents thronged to caught a glimpse of the deceased.

The metropolis had been under siege of robbers in recent time with residents saying they have lost faith in local police in the area.

Meanwhile,state police chief, Mamman Tsafe said police are on top of the security situation in the metropolis.

He said two notorious armed robbers were on Sunday night shot dead by the Police in Warri and another escaped with bullet wound.

The State Commissioner of Police, who spoke through the Area Commander Delta South, Yaro Abutu said the bandits met their waterloo when they snatched a white Hilux Van with registration number Lagos DN815JJJ.

He said a police AK-47 rifle was recovered from the suspects who were killed during exchange of gun fire.
